2018 was a year rich and full of amazing projects for EMCY and its partners. One of them to be particularly proud of is PLAY!, an event which took place in Turkey from 18th to 23rd of October, more precisely in Istanbul. For this occasion, the local partner, BT Music and Performing Arts School has created a musical theater for children (ages 5-11) and their parents, based on very successful books about composers’ lives called ‘Classical Music Tales’.
EMCY prize winners were invited to make this musical theater exceptional and to play classical music pieces renowned for their importance in theaters’ setting. The EMCY prize winners, Weng Qingzhu, violin, winner of the International Competition for Violin, Kloster Schöntal and Marina Beschastnykh, violin, winner of Mravinsky International Competition for Youth played for young kids and their parents, uniting two generations with music and art. The BT Arts School in collaboration with EMCY was able to create ‘a bridge’ through different cultures and different generations where the milestone is music. The activity was part of GIVE MUSIC A FUTURE project.
GIVE MUSIC A FUTURE is a cooperation project co-funded by the culture program Creative Europe of the European Union. It counts 8 partners of 7 different countries: United Kingdom, Netherlands, Turkey, Lithuania, Spain, Luxembourg and Germany. GIVE MUSIC A FUTURE wants to promote young European musicians with performances in 7 countries, providing them with the essential skills to engage with different audiences all over Europe. They will leave the concert halls and take the music to places where you and I meet. GIVE MUSIC A FUTURE will turn youth music competitions into an interactive experience of art.
