Discover Music Tour

European Tours

Since 2007 EMCY organises a tour for young prize winners through Luxembourg and Germany. Unlikely the traditional music tours this particular one is enriched by audience development coaching with professionals in the music sector and, in addition, it takes places is very unusual venues, searching very unusual audiences.

After an intensive theoretical preparation and various workshops where the musicians will be taught how to develop a repertoire of structured improvisation and short composed pieces, the artists will give outreach sessions and evening concerts in Luxembourg, Germany. This concerts, however, won`t respect the traditional format: they will be set in squares, shopping malls, social centers, where people usually go in order to attract the typical non-audience of classical music. Nevertheless, exhibitions would be organised also in schools and refugees centers, where people with difficulties could also enjoy the spectacles proposed by the young prize winners.

This special tour format has the aim to build the capacities of the young musicians to approach a difficult-to-reach audience. Moreover, it tries to widen their repertoire including contemporary pieces and teach them how to play in venues different than concert halls. By doing this in different European countries and with international professional, musicians will acquire also the possibility to internationalize their career; a big plus for young talents.

Another edition of the Discover Music Tour was successfully accomplished by EMCY in cooperation with UGDA Music School and the Flying Gorillas organisation. The tour was part of a larger project called ‘Solidarity in times of crisis’ and was co-funded by the Erasmus + programme of the European Union.

This year many concerts and workshops took place in Luxembourg and Germany from the 4th until the 13th of March. The musical programm was based on classical music soundtracks. The musical pieces were executed with maestry by three young talented prize winners: Kiron Atom Tellian, EMCY winner of the Peter Toperczer International Piano Competition Košice, Georgios Banos, EMCY winner of the Österreichische Jugendmusikwettbewerbe Prima la Musica and Hy-Huu Dang, EMCY winner of the Concours Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes & European Competition for Young Soloists .
