From 5th until 12th November, St. Petersburg hosts the XI Mravinsky International Competition for Youth, that will bring together young talented musicians. Mravinsky International Competition is a large-scale cultural project that has been held since 1996. The organizers of the competition are the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg, the Administration of Moskovsky District and St. Petersburg Mravinsky School of Art for Children.
The competition is held in two nominations: woodwind instruments and brass wind instruments, organized for two age categories:category A – 11-15 years old; category B – 16-21 years old. For the first time in the history of the competition the brass wind instruments – French horn and trumpet, will be open for the younger age group.
The competition organizers have received a record number of applications. By the results of the qualifying audition, 170 young musicians representing musical-education institutions of Russia and foreign countries were admitted to take part in the competition. Among the contestants there are winners of all-Russian and international competitions, holders of national awards, scholars of the New Names Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation which presumes a high competitive level of the forthcoming competition and an opportunity to hear outstanding musical talents. In the III round o f the competition, the young musicians will perform being accompanied by St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Leontiev.
The jury of the competition is composed of prominent musicians from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Germany, Hungary, China, Estonia and Lithuania. The competition programme will include Master classes held by jury members for the young musicians, participation in the Round table discussions and creative-profile seminars.
The XI International Competition for Youth will start on November 4, 2018 at 18:00 at the concert hall of St. Petersburg Mravinsky School of Art for Children. The contestants will be greeted with music gifts from a laureate of Mravinsky Competition and the Orchestra of Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music conducted by A.N. Vasiliev, Rector of St. Petersburg State Conservatoire.
The closing gala of the competition the concert of laureates will be held on November 12, 2018 at 18.30 at the Grand Hall of D. Shostakovich Academic Philharmonic. The State Academic Symphony Orchestra conducted by M. Leontiev will be among the participants of the winners’ concert.
