From 16 to 18 March will take place the 43. Schweizerischen Jugendmusikwettbewerbs (SJMW) in seven different music schools in Basel, Eschen (FL), Genf, Lausanne, Lugano, Neuchâtel, Walchwil und Winterthur.
The competition was founded in 1975 on the initiative of the ‘Tonhalle-Gesellschaft’ Zurich. The foundation ‘Schweizerischer Jugendmusikwettbewerb’ has been registered under private law since 1999. The foundation aims to support and promote particularly talented young musicians but also young people in general through music. A Foundation Board is responsible for the competition and concentrates particularly on strategic and financial questions. It is advised in artistic and organisational matters by a commission of experts. These two bodies work closely with the office in St Gallen on all tasks related to the foundation.
Solo : Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Recorder, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon, Harp, Accordion, German Psalms, Classical Percussion, Music ancient before 1750 and Contemporary music.
Chamber music: chamber music duo (free repertoire), Contemporary music duo, Music ancient before 1750 duo, guitars duo, piano duo/ four hands piano (piano duet), Ensamble chamber music, Ensamble Music ancient before 1750, brass Ensamble, guitars Ensamble, voice Ensamble.

The prize winners (from the first part of the competition) will take part to the Finals in Zurich from 3rd to 6th May 2018. The prize winner concert will take place on 6 May in Zurich.
