Prémio Jovens Músicos is the annual competition of the Portuguese Broadcasting Organisation. It was founded in 1987 with the aim of finding and promoting the best music students. It was originally aimed at soloists but in 1990 a chamber music category was added in order to promote making music together.

CONDITIONS FOR THE ADMISSION OF COMPETITORS 

Category A | Soloists 

Upper Level :
Clarinet , Trombone , Piano , for competitors born as of October 1, 1993 ;
Percussion , for competitors born as of October 1, 1992 ;
The winners of the 1st Prize | Level in previous editions, regardless of date of birth, will not be admitted to the contest.

Medium Level: 
Flute : for competitors born as of October 1, 2000 ;
Violin : for competitors born as of October 1, 2000 ;
The winners of the 1st Prize | Level in previous editions, regardless of date of birth, will not be admitted to the contest. These, however, can compete in Category A | Higher level.

Category B | Chamber music 
For groupings up to sextets (inclusive)

Upper Level: for competitors born as of October 1, 1993 .
Candidates who have integrated 1st Prize winners | Level in previous editions, regardless of date of birth, will not be admitted to the contest.

Medium Level: for competitors born as of October 1, 2000 .
Candidates who have integrated 1st Prize winners | Level in previous editions, regardless of date of birth, will not be admitted to the contest. These, however, may compete in Category B | Higher level.
Note: Applications based on the average age of the members of the groups are not accepted.

Category C | Jazz Combo 
For groupings up to sextets (inclusive)

For competitors born as of October 1, 1992 .
Candidates who have integrated 1st place winners in previous editions, regardless of their date of birth, will not be admitted to the competition.

Category C: 
Jazz Combo
In categories A, B and C, the PJM consists of a Qualifying Round (by audio recording ), a Heat Roundand a Final Round .

Candidates (soloists and / or chamber music groups) who have been awarded the 2nd or 3rd prize (median level) in previous editions of the PJM are exempted from the pre-qualification level .
Candidates who fall into different categories from those in which they have been awarded will not be exempt.
Candidates (soloists and / or chamber music groups) who have been awarded the 2nd or 3rd prize (upper level) in previous editions of the PJM are exempt from taking the testPreliminary round – top level .
Candidates who fall into different categories from those in which they have been awarded will not be exempt.

PRE-ELIMINATING – Sending the recordings at the time of registration, until 31 March .
ELIMINATÓRIAS – June 9 to 15 – Contemporary Culture Center of Castelo Branco
FINAIS – July 23 to 28 – Casa da Música, PortoFESTIVAL YOUNG MUSICIANS – October 3 to 5 – Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon
