Prémio Jovens Músicos is the annual competition of the Portuguese Broadcasting Organisation. It was founded in 1987 with the aim of finding and promoting the best music students. It was originally aimed at soloists but in 1990 a chamber music category was added in order to promote making music together.
Antena 2 – Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP)
The participants should be aged up to 25 years old.
Two rounds followed by final.
With the exception of the Preliminary Rounds (recorded via audio), the PJM sessions are public.
The Preliminary Rounds will take place between June 12th and 18th, 2026 at Casa da Música, Porto.
The Finals will take place between July 24th and 28th, 2026 at Casa da Cultura in Santa Comba Dão, in co-production with the Municipality of Santa Comba Dão.

Category A
Higher Level:
Classical guitar / Plucked viola, Percussion, Trumpet, Cello on/before October 1, 2000
Medium Level:
Double bass, Flute for competitors born after October 1, 2007
The winners of the 1st Prize | Level in previous editions, regardless of date of birth, will not be admitted to the contest. These, however, can compete in Category A | Higher level.
Category B | Chamber music
For groups up to sextets (inclusive)
Higher Level: for competitors born on/before October 1, 2000.
Medium Level: for competitors born on/before October 1, 2007.
Candidates who have integrated 1st Prize winners | Level in previous editions, regardless of date of birth, will not be admitted to the contest. These, however, may compete in Category B | Higher level.
Note: Applications based on the average age of the members of the groups are not accepted.
Category C | Jazz Combo
For competitors born on/before October 1, 2000

The competition is open for musicians of Portuguese nationality or who live in Portugal. The regulation can be found at this link.

In categories A, B and C, the PJM consists of a Qualifying Round (by audio recording), a Heat Round and a Final Round.
Candidates (soloists and / or chamber music groups) who have been awarded the 2nd or 3rd prize (median level) in previous editions of the PJM are exempted from the pre-qualification level .
Candidates who fall into different categories from those in which they have been awarded will not be exempt.
Candidates (soloists and / or chamber music groups) who have been awarded the 2nd or 3rd prize (upper level) in previous editions of the PJM are exempt from taking the test Preliminary round – top level .
