Telmo Alexandre Cota Rocha began his musical studies at the Sociedade Filarmónica Rainha Santa Isabel das Doze Ribeiras. He later joined the Conservatório Regional de Angra do Heroísmo, studying with Edgar Marques, and graduated from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where he studied with Paulo Guerreiro and Luís Vieira.

He has taken masterclasses with leading figures in the horn world, such as Adrian Martinez, Anneke Scott, Carsten Duffin, Eric Terwilliger, Jörg Brückner, Kalervo Kulmala, Martin Owen, Nathaniel Silberschlag, Radovan Vlatković, Sarah Willis, Stefan de Leval Jezierski, among many others.

He was a scholarship holder of the Barry Tuckwell Foundation and the Yamaha Music Europe Foundation. He has won several competitions, such as the Paços’ Premium International Music Competition (1st Prize and Excellence Prize) and the Prémio Jovens Músicos (1st Prize, European Union of Music Competitions for Youth Prize and Prémio Adácio Pestana).

He has been selected for two of Europe’s most prestigious youth orchestras, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the European Union Youth Orchestra.

He has performed under the baton of renowned conductors such as Antonio Pappano, Christian Blex, Ingo Metzmacher, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Kirill Petrenko, Manfred Honeck, Peter Stark, Stanley Dodds, Teodor Currentzis, and Tobias Wögerer.

In 2025, he won the audition for academist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the audition for Soloist A in the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, and the audition for Co-Principal in the Orquestra Gulbenkian.
