Nationality: British
Instrument: Trombone
Date of birth 2004/10/22

Sophie Bright was born in France to a Russian mother and an English father and now lives in Switzerland.

She grew up with jazz as she performed with the big band “Dai Kimoto & Swing Kids”. Collecting the energizing international experiences, Sophie continued performing solo and in small formations at jazz festivals and jam sessions in Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, UK, Russia, and Malaysia.

In 2016 she discovered a great passion for classical music, thanks to her teacher Fredi Sonderegger in Arbon.

At the age of 12, she won her first solo with the St. Gallen chamber orchestra, and since then has soloed with several other orchestras.
As soloist Sophie is the winner of the United Classics Golden Key trophy 2018, Jazz SJMW 2018, the Beringer Jazz Award 2019, four-times winner of the FINALE SJMW (2015, 2017, 2019, 2021), and other music competitions.

Sophie received scholarships from the foundation Lyra (2016-2018), the Lions club Bern- Wohlensee (2020) and the EMCY prize 2021.

Since autumn 2019 Sophie studies with Professor Ian Bousfield at the Hochschule für Künste Bern.

Sophie performs with trombone in various settings – most often as a soloist, in the duet “SoNatha” (trombone and cello), and with the swing quintet “Coniglio Connection” for lindy hop dancers.
