Sherwin Ngan was born in Oslo, Norway in 2004. He started playing piano at the age of 6 and violin at the age of 5. He is attending the “Young Talents”- program at Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where his teacher is Prof. Marina Pliassova. He is a student at Edvard Munch Videregående Skole (High School) Talent Program in Music, which collaborates with Young Talents Barratt Due on a special specialization program. Sherwin is also a member of “Nasjonalt Klavetiltak”- the national talents program for pianists in Norway.
Sherwin has also participated in various festivals and concerts in Norway and abroad, both as a soloist and chamber musician. In addition to his solo performances, he has also been invited to perform as a soloist with different orchestras. In 2021, he played Edvard Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor, Op 16 with Barratt Due Symphony Orchestra. He has participated in masterclasses with professors such as Michael Wladkowski, Yuri Bogdanov, Håvard Grimse and many others.
Sherwin is a prize-winner of numerous competitions such as: International piano competition in Yaroslavl 2017, Russia (3rd prize), Steinway Piano Festival 2018 in Norway (1st prize), “Where art is born” International Competition 2019 in Krasnodar Russia (1st prize) and Midgard Music Competition 2019 in Norway (1st prize). In 2020 he won the first prize at: “La Note Céleste” International Piano Competition, International Moscow Music Competition, ODIN International Music Competition and the North International Music Competition.
In 2021 he won the first prize at: International Piano Competition “CITTA DI ARONA”, the XX International Competition and International “AKORDY KHORTYTSI”, VIII International Piano Competition Smederevo ULJUS, International Viennese Music Competition, “De Bach Au Jazz” International Classical Piano Competition, “Città di San Donà di Piave” International Piano Competition and many more. In 2022 he won the third prize at Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, the second prize at Franz Liszt Center International Piano Competition and at the Solinaria International Piano Competition and the first prize at the Ungdommens Musikkmesterskap in Norway, as well as the EMCY prize.
Sherwin achieved his ABRSM Grade 8 with distinction in both piano and violin in 2018 and ABRSM Music Theory Grade 5 with distinction in 2016.
