Joana was born in 1997 in Vale de Cambra, Portugal and she began playing oboe at the age of five. She is actually studying at the National Superior Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris in the class of David Walter and Nora Cismondi. She graduated in music at the University of Aveiro, in the class of Jean-Michel Garetti, previously doing her musical studies at the Music Conservatory of Jobra in the class of Jonathan Costa, Jean-Michel Garetti and Ana Madalena Silva.

She has been the winner of third place in the Young Artist Oboe Competition – IDRS (Spain), first place in the 32nd edition of the Young Musicians Award (Superior Level) and the EMCY Prize at the competition Prémio Jovens Músicos (2018). Laureate in various other competitions, she stand out as a soloist and won the second Prize in the 29th Edition of the Young Musicians Prize (Medium Level), the first prizes in the International Wind Competition “Terras de La-Salette” in different categories, and the ”Prize of the Public” and first place at the Interpretation Prize Frederico de Freitas / University of Aveiro.

She was a member of the European Capital of Culture Orchestra (Guimarães 2012), the Young Portuguese Orchestra and the Stage Gulbenkian Orchestra and she collaborates frequently with the Portuguese Symphonic Band and many other renown orchestras.
