The 58th edition of the German national competition Jugend Musiziert will take place as a video competition.

The pandemic situation is still uncertain, and the organisers decided together with the councils of Bremen and Bremerhaven to bring only the jury members, approximately 160. In the meantime, more than 1400 performances will be viewed and prizes will be awarded. With a streamed welcome concert from the “Glocke” on Saturday, May 22nd, the Bremen Philharmonic will send greetings to all Jugend musiziert participants.

With great regret, but also in the knowledge of equally great responsibility, those responsible for the competition decided to take this step together with the host cities. Around 2500 young people who would have travelled to Bremen and Bremerhaven with their parents, siblings and teachers between May 20 and 27, will be able to submit their performance as a video.

Prof. Ulrich Rademacher, the chairman of the advisory board of Jugend musiziert, says: “Jugend musiziert would have liked to offer the participants in Bremen and Bremerhaven a platform to present the program, which has been practiced under many challenges. The plans for this were repeatedly adapted to the new Corona conditions over the course of months. The successfully conducted competitions of the federal states as video competition, encourage us to also hold the national competition in the same format. The state juries were enthusiastic about the many creative solutions that the musicians and their teachers have found to make music digitally ‘together’ despite the lockdown. ”

The open letter from the organisers with more information can be found here.
