Saturday the 6th of April the Swiss national best talents from 8 up to 22 years old, selected by the Schweizerischer Jugendmusikwettbewerb (SJMW), had the opportunity to exhibit live on two different stages. For these performances, they have been evaluated by a high-level jury at the l’Ecole de Jazz et de Musique Actuelle di Losanna.

The variety of genres (improvised music, pop, rock, hip hop and electronic music) and groups (soloists, bands or big bands) to which this competition is open, gave to musicians the possibility to be recognized as talented young players in new music field and to express freely the development of music through youth in the last ages.

This special contest has been divided into two parts: the initial which consisted of an online pre-selection and the final part, the Come together concert!

In the first phase, the Jazz&Pop commission has formed 12 groups which have played at ‘Ecole de Jazz et de Musique Actuelle’ of Losanna.

Many young musicians have performed and improved their skills thanks to the professional feedback gave by the experts which composed the jury. Come together 2019 was not only a contest but also an enriching and educational experience for the participants.

Special prizes have been awarded to:

• Marie Jallut aka Marie Jay (Cat. III): Recordings at the ZHdK in Zurich
• Junior Big Band Conservatory Bern (Cat. II): Recordings at the Jazzcampus in Basel
• Band Weird Fishes (Cat. IV): Gig at the Offbeat Jazz Festival
• Konsi Big Band Conservatory Bern (Cat. III): Gig at the Offbeat Festival
• Band of the Day: Weird Fishes
• Musician of the Day: Lucas Zibulski, drummer of the band Weird Fishes

After such a big success, the Schweizerischer Jugendmusikwettbewerb (SJMW) knows for sure that this event will be even greater next year. As a matter of fact, in 2020, Jazz&Pop will take place on the 4th and 5th of April at the Kanzlei Club and at the Xenix Kino in Zurich, with the special collaboration of Musikschule Konservatorium Zurich.

Young from 12 till 22 years old can apply through the online form from the 1st December 2019.
