From 23 May to 6 June 2026, the prima la musica National Competition brought together 1,087 young musicians from Austria, South Tyrol, and Liechtenstein in Eisenstadt (Burgenland). Austria’s largest youth music competition concluded with 113 participants receiving the title of National Winner.

The competition featured 477 solo performances and 162 chamber music ensembles, showcasing the artistic achievements of musicians aged 10 to 21. Beyond the competition itself, prima la musica provided valuable artistic exchange and constructive feedback from distinguished juries, supporting the participants’ musical
development.

To make the event accessible to a wider audience, the entire competition was livestreamed from five venues. Alongside around 6,000 visitors attending in person, almost 20,000 viewers followed the performances online. The programme also included prima la musicaPLUS, the advanced competition track for young musicians preparing for higher music education. In 2026, 172 pupils and students from Austria’s music universities, conservatories, and gifted education programmes successfully participated.
