Gonçalo Nova, born on 18/08/2003 in Porto – Portugal, began his musical studies in tenor trombone at six years old in the CMP – Conservatório de Música do Porto, with Prof. Joaquim Oliveira. In 07/2021 concluded high school and the 8th degree in trombone in CMP, majoring in music, finishing the final exam with the highest grade.

Since 09/2021 has been doing his Music Bachelor’s degree in Tenor Trombone with Prof. Fabrice Millischer and Hubert Mayer in the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg – Germany.

Since 09/2023 has be invited to collaborate with the Münchner Philharmoniker and the Staatstheater Freiburg as a guest as 1st Trombone Solo.
Between 05/2022 and 07/2023 worked with the Staatsorchester Stuttgart as 1st Trombone Solo.
Since 10/2021 has been working with the Orquestra de Extremadura – Spain, as a regular guest – 2nd trombone – Seasons 2021 / 2023.
Since 11/2021 has been working with the Ensemble Holst-Sinfonietta of Freiburg, as a guest musician – Trombone, under the direction of Maestro Klaus Simon. Currently, he is also a member of the EBE Ensemble, the trombone ensemble composed of the trombone students of the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, with which he did a Tour through Japan on January 2024.
As part of competitions, he had the opportunity to play as a soloist with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, and the Orquestra do Norte.
As a soloist he had the opportunity to perform with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Orquestra do Norte, the Philhamonic Banatul Timisoara, and in March of 2024 a Live Solo Recital for RTP – Antena 2, the biggest classical music radio station in Portugal.
Since 2013 has participated and been awarded in several competitions, more recently:
– In 2024 – International Instrumental Competition Markneukirchen – Trombone Category – 3 rd Prize;
– In 2023 – “Prague Spring” International Music Competition – Trombone Category – 1 st Prize
– In 2023 – “Prémio Jovens Músicos” RTP Antena 2 – Trombone Category – 1st Prize and European Union of Music Competitions for Youth Prize
– In 2022 – Helene Rosenberg Foundation Merit Scholarship from the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg;
– In 2022 – ARD International Music Competition – Munich – Germany – Semifinals;
– In 2022 – ITA Contest – International Trombone Festival, “Gilberto Gagliardi” Competition – Arkansas – USA – 1 st prize;
– In 2021 – CJ – Concurso Jovem – Youth Competition of all Official Portuguese Conservatoires (all instruments) – 1st prize;
– In 2021 – IN-MUSIC Competition – Junior Revelation – 1 st prize;
– In 2020 – Competition for wind instruments at the Conservatory of Music in Porto – Level A – 1 st Prize;
– In 2020 – Final Competition of the Porto Music Conservatory – All Instruments, and won the Award "Helena Sá e Costa / Câmara Municipal do Porto";
– In 2019 – International Music Competition “Grands Artistes – Les Musicales du Center" (all instruments) in France – 1st prize;
– In 2019 – International wind Instruments Competition “Terras de la Salette”- Juvenile – 2 nd prize;
– In 2018 – Competition for wind instruments at the Conservatory of Music in Porto – Level B – 1 st prize;
– In 2018 – 6th International Competition of Winds of Alto Minho – Class C – 1 st prize;
– In 2018 – Jeunes Talents Competition "Les Musicales du Center" (all instruments) – Paris – France – 3 rd prize;

He participated in several masterclasses, workshops and trombone classes, having had the opportunity to work with great trombonist and musicians like Joseph Alessi, Christopher Houlding, Ben van Dijk, Stefan Schulz, Jeremy Wilson, Jean-Philippe Navrez, Lars Karlin, João Martinho, Filipe Alves, Martin Schippers, Enzo Turriziani, Hakan Bjorkman and Peter Steiner.

Since September 2023 he has been awarded a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
Since October 2022, has been part of Shires Rising Artists Program.
