The lyric baritone Olivier Nilles, originally from Luxembourg, is currently studying with Prof. Marion Eckstein at the Staatliche University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. Already at the age of 6 he began his musical education at the Conservatory of the City of Luxembourg.
Born in 2001 into a family of musicians who have been influenced by singing for generations, in 2020, after passing his abitur, he began his regular studies for the Bachelor of Music in singing as his main subject. Further, Olivier Nilles received training from Robert Baerwald, OlgaWien, Götz Payer (Lied) and Peter Kranefoed (Early Music). He intensified his vocal training with master classes with Patricia Petibon, James Bailleu, MalcomWalker and Catherine Motuz.
Already at the beginning of his career Olivier Nilles can look back on numerous first prizes and special awards. Thus the young baritonewon the first prize Thomas Kuti in 2022, was awarded the Gold Medal, the EMCY Prize and the prize for Best Soloist of the entire competition at the Concours Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes & European Competition for Young Soloists.
Besides numerous concerts in Luxembourg, Stuttgart and the surrounding area, the young baritone is already performing on other international stages. Concert tours have taken him as a soloist with the boys’ choir “Pueri Cantores Luxembourg” through North America (San Francisco), Asia (Seoul) and Europe. In the 2021/2022 season Olivier Nilles was cast as Prince Björn in the world premiere of the opera ,,The Heartless Giant” under thebaton of David Niemann at the Philharmonie Luxembourg. On the same stage he made his debut in the 2016/2017 season as Magnus’ brother in Sir Peter Maxweel Davies’ children’s opera “The Hogboon” under the baton of Karina Canellakis. In addition to his operatic activities, he is increasingly devoting himself to the concert and repertoire with, among others, J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion, Christmas Oratorio and Cantatas, Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, G. F. Handel’s Messiah, masses by W. A. Mozart, and songs by F. Schubert, R. Schumann and H. Pfitzner.
