Clara Yuna Friedensburg (17) grew up in a family of musicians and began playing the cello at the age of seven. At eleven years old, she made her debut in Norway and subsequently performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen under Tarmo Peltokoski, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica. Among her highlights are performances at the Verbier Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Kronberg Festival, and the Festival der Nationen in Bad Wörishofen, which awarded Clara the prestigious Prix Young Artist of the Year 2024.
This year, Clara was awarded the Swedish Polestar Prize, adding to an impressive list of achievements that includes first and special prizes at the Bundeswettbewerb Jugend Musiziert, a second prize at both the international Anton Rubinstein Competition for young cellists and the international Young Musicians Competition in Tallinn, as well as being named ‘Talent of the Year’ by the Norwegian Council of Cultural Schools at just 13 years old. Clara is a scholarship holder of the Norwegian Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation and the German Hans and Stefan Bernbeck Foundation.
Clara Yuna Friedensburg studies now with Prof. Frans Helmerson at the Kronberg Academy in Germany, supported by the Strauss Patronage. At the age of eleven, she was admitted to the Young Talents programme at Norway’s Barratt Due Music Institute, studying with Ernst Simon Glaser and subsequently Ole Eirik Ree. Clara has received further guidance by esteemed musicians such as Wolfgang Schmidt, Steven Isserlis, Sir András Schiff, Daniel Müller-Schott, Torleif Thedéen, Danjulo Ishizaka, Claudio Bohorquez, Nicolas Altstaedt, Hans Jensen, David Geringas, Pekka Kuusisto, Kirill Gerstein, Gábor Takács-Nagy and Klaus Hellwig.
Clara plays a cello by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume (1845), generously provided to her as a prizewinner of the 31st competition of the German Musical Instrument Fund by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
