Results of the Concours Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes & European Competition for Young Soloists 2016

The 33rd edition of the Concours Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes & European Competition for Young Soloists took place on Sunday, November 13, 2016. The special disciplines this year included chamber music in the national competition and low brass and percussion solo for the European segment of the competition. The event was organised by the UGDA Music School in close cooperation with the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg.

This year 116 talented young musicians from 14 different nationalities presented themselves in front of an international jury. The musical presentation was of high quality, both on the national and international level. The jury awarded 112 medals, 38 gold (56-60 points), 62 silver (50-55.9 points) and 12 bronze (45- 49.9 points). Furthermore 11 SACEM prizes and 16 special prizes were conferred. The EMCY prize for 2016 was awarded to Niklas Engel (trumpet).

The closing concert was given by laureates from the EMCY member competitions and of the last year’s jazz-rock-pop-competition «Take two to Six», including: Benjamin Kruithof (cello) accompanied by Lina Druart on the piano and Zala Kravos (piano) as well as the Austrian trio “El Bramschlex” made up of Christoph Baschoria (clarinet), Alexander Falzberger (alto clarinet) and Elias Gillesberger (piano) and “Electronic vs. Acoustics” composed of Oliver Biver (bass-synthesizers), David Hoffmann (vibraphone), Simone Hoffmann (synthesizers) and Pedro Gonzalez (drums).
