In great demand as a concert violinist in his native land China and abroad, Lu Siqing was invited by Yehudi Menuhin to study in London aged 11 and was subsequently a Junior prizewinner in the inaugural Menuhin Competition in 1983. In 1984 he returned to China and five years later went to the Juilliard School to study with Dorothy Delay. In 1987 he was the first Asian violinist to win 1st Prize at the Paganini Competition in Italy.

Acclaimed as one of the most outstanding Chinese violinists of his generation, Siqing has performed some of the world’s most famous concert halls in more than forty countries throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia. Siqing has collaborated with many of the world’s leading musicians including Lorin Maazel, Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Lawrence Foster, Jaap van Zweden, Leonard Slatkin and Yu Long. As a soloist, he has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras.

Siqing has released more than 20 CDs and video recordings for Philips, Naxos, Marco Polo and BIS. His interpretation of the “Butterfly Lovers” violin concerto is widely considered the best and has sold well over a million copies worldwide.

“I am thrilled and honoured to come back as a juror member for the Menuhin Competition in Geneva in 2018. Yehudi was a great mentor for me in my journey through music, and he had helped so many young musicians in so many ways during his life time. The Menuhin Competition will surely carry his legacy and inspire the many young musicians in their pursuit of music dreams.”
