Czech violinist Josef Špaček has established himself as one of the most accomplished violinists of his generation. He studied with Ida Kavafian, Jaime Laredo, Itzhak Perlman and Jaroslav Foltyn. He won top prizes at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition, International Queen Elisabeth Competition and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions.

As a soloist he appears with orchestras across Europe, the US and Asia, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Essener Philharmoniker, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI Torino, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Belgique and Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg.

He has served as concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. As of 2016 the orchestra named him “Associate Artist”.

He collaborates with conductors such as Marc Albrecht, Jiři Bělohlavek, Semyon Bychkov, James Conlon, Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev, Roy Goodman, Manfred Honeck, Jakub Hrůša, Eliahu Inbal, Jun Markl, Tomaš Netopil, Thomas Sanderling and Thomas Sondergard.

Josef Špaček gives numerous recitals in Europe, Asia and the USA.

He has recorded for among others Supraphon and Naxos.

Josef Špaček plays a violin made in 1855 in the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume.
