The ‘Nutcracker’ Contest is one of the most cherished projects of the RUSSIA-KULTURA Television Channel. Each year the contest discovers new and exciting talents from all over the world and provides young performers with opportunity to showcase their skills on a professional level, as well as exchange experiential knowledge and receive the judgment of eminent professionals.

The ‘Nutcracker’ has earned the reputation as one of the most prestigious music contests for children in Russia. It enjoys close attention of a wide and diverse audience, from professionals to classical music enthusiasts.

The contestants perform in front of many millions of viewers, as the auditions are both televised and streamed live on the channel’s website. This means that the participation in ‘Nutcracker’ is an inspiring opportunity for young performers to step into spotlight. Besides, finalists are honored to perform at one of the most prestigious Moscow venues – the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall – with one of the best symphony orchestra accompaniment.

The Contest is open to young musicians from throughout the world.

The participants can be aged up to 14 years old (wind instruments up to 15).
The competition has three rounds (the final round with orchestral accompaniment).

Application

Participation in the Contest is free of charge.
To participate in the Contest, please, fill in the online application form and enclose the following documentation:

a) A copy of the applicant’s birth certificate or passport certified by the educational institution where the applicant is studying;
b) A brief biography of the applicant with information about participation in other competitions (indicating the exact name, year and place of the competition, the result), as well as information about hobbies and the most interesting events in the creative life of the applicant. Not more than 500 characters (with spaces). Use of abbreviations of words is not allowed;
c) Video of the applicant’s performances;
d) Photo of the applicant;
e) The program for three rounds of competitive auditions with full names of authors, exact names of works, numbers of works, numbers of parts, and also timing of each work.

The application can be submitted in Russian or in English.

Applications disregarding these rules (including biographies exceeding the symbol limit) will not be accepted.

 The Application form shall also contain direct links to recordings of the contestant’s performance (on YouTube etc.). The recordings shall be provided as separate videos. Each video shall contain the first and the last name of the Contestant as well as the title of the composition performed.

Rules

The participants can be aged up to 15 years old for Wind instruments (who was born after November 30, 2006) and up to 14 years old for all other instruments (who was born after November 30, 2007).

The Contest is held in three music disciplines (nominations):
a) The piano;
b) The strings (violin, cello, harp, double bass);
c) The winds (except for the block flute) and percussion instruments.

The applicant who has received an invitation to participate in the competitive auditions from the organising committee is obliged to confirm the delivery and within five working days to confirm his participation in the competitive auditions by sending an email to the organiser of the contest. The absence of the confirmation letter is considered by the organising committee as a refusal to participate further.

The Organizer of the Contest refunds the costs of accommodation of nonresident participants of the competitive auditions, as well as of one legal representative accompanying him, ensures participation in the Contest of the Symphony (or chamber) orchestra, and also ensures the possibility of conducting rehearsals by participants before each round of the competitive auditions in which they participate
