The Papandopulo Croatian Competition of Young Musicians is an annual event created with the goal of giving young musicians in Croatia a wide range of professional prospects and to prepare them for the competitiveness of the classical music scene and international competitions that are held throughout the world. The competition is held in five categories each year and is open to musicians in Croatia or those who went to school or graduated in Croatia, and who are under the age of 30.

The competition has 3 rounds with 4 or 5 categories each year, 4-year cycle (total of 16-20 categories).

Application

The competition is open for young musicians with Croatian nationality who are studying, or have completed their studies, in Croatia or abroad. It is open for musicians who will not be 30 years of age by the first day of the competition or who were not born before 1 October 1990 (35 years for singers, jazz musicians and chamber ensembles or who were not born before 1 October 1985).

Applications for the competition will be submitted no later than 30 June 2019 at UNISON, Brozova 8a, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia or at www.natjecanje-papandopulo.org. 

The application form must be enclosed with:
-transcript or photocopy of a birth certificate or birth certificate from a birth certificate
-a short resume with a description of artistic activity
-a picture suitable for playback (3 or more MB)
-confirmation of paid compensation for participation in the Competition ( 300,00 HRK )

After the applications have been received, and not later than 15 July 2019, all the candidates shall be informed whether their application has been accepted. If the applicant should withdraw from the competition for any reason, the fee paid will not be reimbursed.

Rules

The categories in the 8th Papandopulo Croatian Competition for Young Musicians are: chamber ensembles, standard ensembles, piano trio/quartet/quintet, string trio/quartet, woodwind trio/quintet, non-standard ensembles (from three to six instruments), jazz soloists and ensembles.

The competition is open to all Croatian citizens under the age of 30. The competition is held in three rounds. The initial number of contestants is not limited. A maximum of six contestants enter the second round, and a maximum of three enter the final round. All performances are open to the public.

Jury decisions are irreversible. All contestants receive a written acknowledgement of participation in the competition. All contestants who enter the second round receive a Diploma for participation. The first-prize winners are obligated to attend the award ceremony and to perform at the first-prize winners’ concert without further compensation. Acknowledgements, Diplomas and Prizes are signed by the president and members of the jury.
