The Slovenian Music School Association, in collaboration with the TEMSIG Commission, has been organizing the national competition for young musicians continuously since 1971. The BALTEK ballet competition, on the other hand, is a relatively newer addition. These two competitions play a crucial role in integrating and fostering the growth and development of Slovenian music culture, while also ensuring international recognition and excellence in Slovenian music education. Many of today’s established ambassadors of Slovenian music culture initially gained recognition and international affirmation through TEMSIG competitions. The competitions are held every three years for most disciplines and every two years for ballet, with various age categories available up to the age of 25.
The 52nd edition of the TEMSIG-Slovenian Music Competition for Youth took place from February 27th to March 15th, 2023. The participants showcased their talents at various music schools near Ljubljana and Zasavje, as well as at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana.
The competition welcomed participants from a range of disciplines, including trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, euphonium, percussion, accordion, tamburce, guitar duo, piano duo, chamber groups with strings and piano, and jazz solo performances. The culmination of the event was the final concert on March 21st, where the first prize winners were selected and had the opportunity to perform at the Julija Betetta Hall of the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana.
