98° Concurso Juventudes Musicales 2021 – Results

Another edition of Concurso Juventudes Musicales finished. The 98th call for the Concurso Juventudes Musicales of Spain for Ancient Music was held last weekend, at the Superior School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC).

The jury was composed by the harpsichordist and organist Silvia Márquez. Together with the flautist Joan Bosch, the musicologist and singer Juan Carlos Asensio, the violinist Lina Tur Bonet and the soprano Marta Almajano, as vocals. Also the journalist Aleix Palau as secretary without vote.

During the awards ceremony, the president of JM Spain, Miquel Cuenca, congratulated himself  “for the absolutely exceptional level shown by the contestants, who have made this more than a contest an authentic festival of old music from first level, and this shows that an Ancient Music contest was necessary for young performers in our country, so that all this talent could be shown.”

As a result, the violagambist Miguel Bonal Asensio received the 1st PRIZE and the flautist Rita Rodríguez García received the 2nd PRIZE.

In addition, the EMCY Prize went to Miguel Bonal; the ECOS Festival Award went to the Brezza trio; the Bachcelona Special Prize to the best interpreter of baroque music was awarded to the Anacronía group; the Espurnes Barroques Festival Special Award was won by the Brezza group by popular vote, and finally, the Special Prize for the Úbeda y Baeza Ancient Music Festival went to Miguel Bonal.

The GEMA Special Prize was not awarded as it is only awarded if the first prize is a group and not a soloist.
