After the European elections, it is time to talk about the aims and the implementation of the promises our politicians made during the political campaign, about culture. Therefore EMCY asked several leading candidates for their stance and projects for culture.

Here we are sharing the point of view and aims of the social democratic party of Germany (SPD, part of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats) as European Party since they have answered to our inquiries. As soon as the other parties will answer to our emails, we will publish also their beliefs and scopes.

What is Europe? Besides a complicated structure and many political problems the biggest added value for the Union is its particular cultural diversity. Instead of the term diversity, richness can be used as a more appropriate word, but the meaning is the same: more and different is better. This multitude of different cultures in the years united under the European flag has formed one big multifaceted culture. European culture. We can then definitely say that European culture is the richest in the world, due to its variety and its diversity. This is the reason why European cultural policy needs to be strengthened.

From its point of view, the German SPD has proposed multiple goals to be achieved in the following years:
– European cultural check for young people: a project to endow young persons with independent and creative thinking.
– Continuation of “Creative Europe” projects until at least 2027 and doubling their funding.
– Increase Social Security for artists throughout Europe.
– Fixation of a unique European price for cultural goods among Europe.
– Protection and preservation of every national cultural heritage.
– Improve the European contribution to education and culture.

As demonstrated throughout the last 50 years, Europe does have a strong influence on its citizens’ life. For this reason, with the European elections we decided the shape of our future; not only the political connotation, but also our values. Enhancement and preservation of our cultural heritage is one of the most important.
