EMCY is the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth: a network of music competitions covering nearly thirty countries. We promote the educational value of competitions and facilitate the sharing of our members’ educational, practical and musical knowledge and experience through meetings and exchanges. EMCY membership is a quality label for a competition and members profit from a range of concerts, tours and master classes organised by EMCY for their prize winners. EMCY is a non-profit organisation, based and registered in Munich (Germany) and run by an international board and office. More information at www.emcy.org.

The secretary general is responsible for implementing EMCY´s working programme. This includes the organisation of board meetings, conferences, the General Assembly, and concerts for young musicians. He/she is in charge of the administrative tasks, including human resource management, and oversees financial management as well as undertakes and coordinates fundraising activities. This currently includes applying for, and managing EU grants. He/she is responsible for the public relations activities of the organisation and coordinates the implementation of the network’s internal and external communication. This includes updating the website, regularly writing news and facebook posts and creating prize winner profiles. He/she develops and maintains contacts with members and partners.

He/she reports directly to the Board. The assistant must be a skilled networker and is required to represent the organisation at a variety of events.

The successful candidate will fulfil the following requirements:

  • Fluent English and German (spoken and written). Other languages (particularly French and/or Russian) can be an advantage
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills (including human resource management)
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrable public relations experience
  • Proven competence in bookkeeping and financial and budget management
  • Successful track record of fundraising and working with sponsors
  • Capacity to prioritise and work under pressure
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including some weekends
  • Strong commitment to and identification with young people and music education

Further assets would be:

  • Good working knowledge of and experience with EU cultural, educational and youth policies and funding programmes
  • Good knowledge of (classical) music

The contract will initially have a limited duration, with the possibility of a subsequent extension. It will be on a part-time basis (70%, equivalent to 28 hours per week) with a gross salary of 2,700 EUR for 100% employment (before all applicable taxes), which means a gross salary of 1,890 EUR for 70% work. Remote work is also available upon request. The contract is expected to commence on December 1, 2023
