More than 1000 young and passionate musicians have applied to participate in the 44th edition of the Schweizerischen Jugendmusikwettbewerbs (SJMW).
From 29th to the 31st of March, the participants will meet in six different locations in Switzerland to prove their musical abilities, to meet with other players and to impress the jury members with their performances.
This year the selected disciplines for the competition are: harpsichord, corn in B minor, flugelhorn, flugelhorn tenor, flugelhorn soprano, guitar, voice, piano, mandolin, organ, trombone, euphonium, trumpet, cornet, tuba, corn, ancient music (before 1750) and contemporary music.
For the chamber music competition, the disciplines for year 2019 are: chamber music duo (free repertoire), contemporary chamber music duo, ancient chamber music (before 1750) duo, chamber music ensemble (free repertoire), contemporary music ensemble, ancient music (before 1750) ensemble, Recorder ensemble, Percussion ensemble, Voice ensemble.
The SJMW classical music competition will take place this year in:
– Geneva, at the Conservatoire Populaire de musique, danse et théâtre
– Neuchâtel, at the Conservatoire de musique neuchâtelois
– Liestal, at the Regionale Musikschule Liestal
– Arbon, at the Musikschule Arbon
– Risch-Rotkreuz, at the Musikschule Risch-Rotkreuz
– Winterthur, at the Konservatorium Winterthur
In the last three locations, the award ceremony begin on the 31st March at 17:00. The Prize winners of these events will qualify for the Entrada finale which occur, this year, in Lugano, from the 16th to the 19th of May 2019.
The rehearsals and the concerts are free and open to the public, so we invite everybody who is interested in classical music or who wants to experiment something different in those days, to participate and let these young talents enchant you with their mastery in playing music.
