The Quintet Frontela is an ensemble created in Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMuC) in Barcelona. In September 2008 the Cuban pianist Ivet Frontela convinced Pere Sansó (flute), Vicent Salvador (oboe), Alejandro Villanueva (clarinet), Marc Moragues (horn) and Josep Casadellà (bassoon) to join in and play together the 'Sextour' by Francis Poulenc. After that they continued as a woodwind quintet and dedicated the ensemble's name to their teacher. As a quintet they have worked with many teachers of the ESMuC: Dolors Chiralt (oboist in Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona), David Thompson (horn soloist in Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona), Vicents Prats (solo flute in Orchestre de Paris), Lorenzo Coppola (early music specialist and solo clarinet in Freiburger Barockorchester), Charles Tunnell (cello teacher in Joven Orquesta Nacional de España) and Salvador Brotons (conductor and composer).
In 2009 Quintet Frontela was awarded at 'Arjau' Chamber Music Competition (Barcelona). They also won 1st Prize in 'Higini Anglès' Chamber Music Competition (Tarragona) and Concurso Permanente de Jóvenes Intérpretes (Bilbao). Recently the ensemble won the 3rd Prize at the Chamber Music Competition 'Premi Ciutat de Manresa'. They have played at concerts in L'Auditori of Barcelona, at Philarmonic Society in Bilbao and in other localities such as Torroella de Montgrí, Reus, Manresa and Grau de Gandia. In 2010 the quintet is having a tour as a reward of the 1st Prize at the competition organized by Juventudes Musicales de España.
