Maria Zaitseva was born in Moscow and started playing the cello at the age of four. She studies cello with Yulia Lakina at the Igumnov Children Music School in Moscow. She is a Moscow government as well as a Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation scholarships holder.

Maria has participated in various concerts at the Grand Hall and Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, at the Moscow International House of Music, at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow and at the Grand Hall of the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic Society. She also played in Spain, Lithuania and Estonia.

Maria is a prize winner of several music competitions, like the Alekseyev Competition Festival of Young Musicians (2011, Grand Prix), the Mravinskiy International Youth Competition (2012, 1st Prize), the ‘Young Musician 2013’ International Competition for Young Pianists, Violinists and Cellists (1st Prize), as well as the International Television Contest for Young Musicians The Nutcracker(3rd Prize in 2013 and 2nd Prize in 2014).

In 2015 Maria was awarded the 1st Prize at The Central Music School at Moscow State P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians.

In 2016 she was awarded the 1st Prize, The Overall Winner Prize, the EMCY Prize as well as the Best Performance of Obligatory Composition Prize at the International Radio Competition for Young Musicians 'Concertino Praga'.
