João Miguel Moreira da Silva

João Miguel Moreira da Silva started oboe classes at Sintra Regional Conservatoire, with Óscar Viana, at the age of nine and entered the Pêro Pinheiro’s wind band which is conducted by his father, João Aires Moreira da Silva.
In 2008 he participated in the Covilhã’s Wind Band master class. In 2009 João Miguel entered OJ.COM (an annual orchestra workshop of Portuguese conservatoires) conducted by Rui Massena in Madeira and played with The Portuguese Youth Orchestra entitled Momentum Perppetuum, conducted by Martin André. In 2010 he took part in the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra Zero with maestro Pedro Carneiro and entered OJ.COM, conducted by Jacomo Bairos in Açores, as first oboe. He joined the professional course of current music school in 2011 and was chosen for OJ.COM for the same position with maestro Eduardo Garcia Barrios in Coimbra. In 2012, he played first oboe once again in OJ.COM under the direction of Rodolfo Saglimbeni in Aveiro.
João Miguel has recorded for movies and CD productions and also for television and radio programs. He played along with Lisbon’s Contemporary Music Group, Camerata Musart from Lisbon’s Music College conducted by Gareguin Aroutiounian and Tutti Ensemble Orchestra directed by João ventura. Between 2011 and 2012 he was an effective member of Symphonic Youth Orchestra conducted by Christopher Bochmann and in 2011 he and two colleagues created the C3PO Trio.
Additionally, he worked with maestros Délio Gonçalves, Grazia di Venere, Jean Sébastien Béreau, Jon Konjaerts, Mitchell Fennel and Rafael Agullós. In chamber music he worked with teachers Anna Tommasik, Cândido Fernandes and Eli Camargo. During master classes and occasional classes, he had the opportunity to learn from oboists such as Alain Girard, Andrew Swinnerton, Christian Wetzel, Filipe Freitas, Francisco Luís Vieira, Isaac Duarte, Laura Marcos, Nelson Alves, Omar Zoboli, Pedro Ribeiro, Salvador Parola and Samuel Bastos.
João Miguel has won several prizes at the international wind instruments’ competition Terras de La-Salette, in Oliveira de Azeméis, such as the first place in the child (2008) and juvenile (2010) levels and the second and only place in the junior level (2012). In 2011 he was awarded 1st Prize in National Conservatoire Music School professional course’s internal competition with Jean Sébastien Béreau as president of the jury.
In 2014 João Miguel collaborated with Orquestra XXI. Since 2014 João is a member of Quinteto Klaue. The same year João was invited to take part in the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra and he also played solo with Braga Sinfonietta Orchestra.
In 2015 he was awarded with the 1st Prize in the senior level of the Concurso Internacional Terras de La-Salette and he was awarded with 1st Prize in the Oboe competition of Prémio Jovens Músicos and with Quinteto Klaue the 2nd Prize in the chamber music level at the same competition.
In October 2015 he collaborated with the Kölner Kammerorchester.
In November 2015 João Miguel won the audition for Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, one of the most known young orchestras in the world. One day after this audition, João won the audition for academist in the Gürzenich Orchestra, where he is gonna be academist during the season 2015/2016.
