The Netherlands Violin Competition 2016


From the 9th January to the 6th February took place the Netherlands Violin Competition in Utrecht. This competition is dedicated to encourage gifted and promising violinists from the Netherlands.

The final took place at TivoliVredenburg. This year winner is Michael Foyle for the Oskar Back category (for violinists aged from 18 to 26 years old). In addition to a cash prize, he will get the chance to perform with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra next October. Pieternel Tils won the first prize for the Davina van Wely category (for violinists aged from 15 to 17 years old) and Luna van Leeuwen won the first prize for the Iordens category (for violinists aged from 6 to 13 years old). Existing since 1967, the aim of the Netherlands Violin Competition is not only to give aspiring musicians the chance to perform in front of an audience but also to help them going further in their studies by offering them coaching. Moreover, a talent support program is offered to the all of the competitors before, during and after the competition. This high standard competition is on the road to become an EMCY member.
