Background: Since 2014 the Orlando Festival also hosts the Orlando Competition, as a result of the merging with the Charles Hennen Competition, a well-known institute which organized competitions between1986 and 2012.

The first edition of the former Charles Hennen Competition, international chamber music competition for strings, took place on 16 March 1986. From the start, the organisation of the concours had a broad network of international contacts and an international renowned jury, under chairmanship of Theo Olof, at their disposal.  Already since the first edition the concours can welcome a broad international field of participants. The Orlando Competition of 2014 was held for string quartetts, the 2015 edition will be for piano trios.

Since 1992 the Orlando Competition (former Cahrles Hennen Concours) is a member of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY).
