Age range: 10 - 26 (various age categories)
Structure: 1, 2 or 3 rounds depending on age
Cycle: every two year

Oskar Back: 18 – 26 years old

Davina van Wely: 14 – 17 years old

Iordens B: 13 - 14 years old

Iordens A: 10 - 12 years old

To participate you should have:
  • a Dutch passport
  • been living in The Netherlands for at least 2 year
  • study at a conservatory in The Netherlands

The maximum number amount of candidates will be:
  • category Oskar Back: 25
  • category Davina van Wely: 30
  • category Iordens A: 35
  • category Iordens B: 35

Categorie Oskar Back
  • 1st prize: 12.000 euro plus solo concert with the Residentie Orchestra in season 2018-2019
  • 2nd prize: 6.000 euro
  • 3rd prize: 4.000 euro
  • Prize for best performance new composition: 1.500 euro
Categorie Davina van Wely
  • 1st prize: 3.000 euro plus concert with Nederlands Jeugd Strijkorkest in season 2018-2019
  • 2nd prize: 1.500 euro
  • 3rd prize: 750 euro
  • Prize for best performance new composition: 500 euro
Categorie Iordens
  • 1st prize: 1.000 euro
  • 2nd prize: 500 euro
  • 3rd prize: 250 euro
  • Prize for best performance new composition: 150 euro
Besides the prizes as mentioned above there will also be an extended program Talent Support with further coaching, masterclasses and performances for the prize winners.


Registration fee is 40 EUR. Registration fees deposited by a candidate who doesn't meet conditions for participation is non-refundable. The application form can be filled in via the website


The Netherlands Violin Competition is devoted to the promotion of the development of young violin talent under the age of 26, and to giving young violinists the chance to excel while inspiring the public.
