Senior Group

Regulations for the next editions of the Horowitz Debut and Junior Groups will be published before the next competition on the competition website.

Candidates who have studied with a jury member in the two years preceding the competition or have a family relationship with a jury member are not allowed to take part in the competition.

Junior Group (2008):
1st Prize - 2000 USD, the title of prize winner and the Gold Medal
2nd Prize - 1500 USD, the title of prize winner and the Silver Medal
3rd Prize - 1000 USD, the title of prize winner and the Bronze Medal
4th Prize - 600 USD, the title of prize winner
5th Prize - 300 USD, the title of prize winner
6th Prize - 150 USD, the title of prize winner

Intermediate Group (2010):
1st Prize - 4000 USD, the title of prize winner and the Gold Medal
2nd Prize - 2500 USD, the title of prize winner and the Silver Medal
3rd Prize - 1500 USD, the title of prize winner and the Bronze Medal
4th Prize - 1000 USD, the title of prize winner
5th Prize - 700 USD, the title of prize winner
6th Prize - 500 USD, the title of prize winner

Senior Group (2010):
1st Prize - 10000 USD, the title of prize winner and the Gold Medal
2nd Prize - 6000 USD, the title of prize winner and the Silver Medal
3rd Prize - 4500 USD, the title of prize winner and the Bronze Medal
4th Prize - 2000 USD, the title of prize winner
5th Prize - 1500 USD, the title of prize winner
6th Prize - 1000 USD, the title of prize winner

Application: Candidates should provide the following documents:
  • professional video record (DVD) of program of the participant's choice, but with obligatory performance of virtuoso etude; performance duration - from 10 to 15 minutes; the record should be made not earlier than 2008;
  • enclosed application form filled out by block letters with duration of each piece;
  • xerocopy of birth certificate or passport;
  • two black and white (half-length) glossy pictures, size 9x12  cm, suitable for printing in a booklet, and taken not earlier than 2009;
  • xerocopies of documents confirming previous competitions awards.

Background: The competition was founded in 1995 and is held in memory of Ukraine’s legendary pianist Vladimir Horowitz. It has become a centre of musical and cultural - educational life of Ukraine.

The competition is organised by the International Charitable Fund of Vladimir Horowitz. This foundation is very active in the promotion of the young prize winners and many exchange programmes have been established with other competitions and organizations to enable talented young musicians to perform all over Europe and the world. Examples include the world music festival “Virtuosos of the Planet”, the International Festival “Kyiv Summer Music Evenings” and the International Summer Music Academy. Seven compact discs with the recordings of laureates' performance as well as two discs of multimedia encyclopedia of the competition have been produced. In 2000 the competition became one of the founders of the Association of Academic Musical Competitions of Ukraine which consists of the most recognized competitions in the country. It is also a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions as the upper limit of the senior category addresses professional musicians above the age limit of EMCY Member Competitions.
