Rules:

Intermediate Group
Age range: 14 - 19 years


Senior Group
Age range: 16 - 33 years

Candidates who have studied with a jury member in the two years preceding the competition or have a family relationship with a jury member are not allowed to take part in the competition.

Prizes:

Intermediate group:

1st Prize - 5,000 USD, title of the prize winner and Gold Medal;
2nd Prize- 2,500 USD, title of the prize winner and Silver Medal;
3rd Prize - 1,500 USD, title of the prize winner and Bronze Medal;
4th Prize - 1,000 USD, title of the prize winner;
5th Prize - 700 USD, title of the prize winner;
6th Prize - 500 USD, title of the prize winner.

Senior group:

1st Prize - 20,000 USD, title of the prize winner and Gold Medal;
2nd Prize - 10,000 USD, title of the prize winner and Silver Medal;
3rd Prize - 5,000 USD, title of the prize winner and Bronze Medal;
4th Prize - 2,000 USD, title of the prize winner;
5th Prize - 1,500 USD, title of the prize winner;
6th Prize - 1,000 USD, title of the prize winner.

The Prizes are awarded according to the jury's decision.


Application: Candidates should provide the following documents:
  • the application form filled out on the web site of the Competitions www.horowitzv.org with the duration of each piece;
  • professional video recording (DVD) of the programme of the participant's choice, but with obligatory performance of a virtuoso etude; performance duration is from 10 to 15 minutes; the record should be made not earlier than 2016 and placed on the channel www.youtube.com, the link on it should be given in the application form; the participants from China can place their videos on www.youku.com
  • xerocopy of birth certificate or passport
  • two  pictures, suitable for printing in a booklet, and taken not earlier than 2016
  • copies of documents confirming previous competitions awards
Competition fee: 100 USD

Background:
The competition was founded in 1995 and is held in memory of Ukraine’s legendary pianist Vladimir Horowitz. It has become a centre of musical and cultural - educational life of Ukraine.


In 2012 the competition was part of the cultural programme of the UEFA Euro 2012 in Ukraine/Poland.

The competition is organised by the International Charitable Fund of Vladimir Horowitz. This foundation is very active in the promotion of the young prize winners and many exchange programmes have been established with other competitions and organizations to enable talented young musicians to perform all over Europe and the world. Examples include the world music festival “Virtuosos of the Planet”, the International Festival “Kyiv Summer Music Evenings” and the International Summer Music Academy. Seven compact discs with the recordings of laureates' performance as well as two discs of multimedia encyclopedia of the competition have been produced. In 2000 the competition became one of the founders of the Association of Academic Musical Competitions of Ukraine which consists of the most recognized competitions in the country. It is also a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions as the upper limit of the senior category addresses professional musicians above the age limit of EMCY Member Competitions. Apart from the prizes stipulated in the regulations, private persons and institutions may award other prizes.
